This blog has been created as a one stop shop for everything to do with the Young Men of the Santa Fe Hills Ward. If you are interested in receiving updates by text message or email when new post or comments are made or if you have information or photos to post please contact Bro. Carter.
It's official...the CAMP OUT IS CANCELLED due to all the rain. Rescheduled for April 8th & 9th (2 weeks) Please Check with your parents and let us know tomorrow night if the new dates will work for you. Some of you will be on vacation but if most of the group can go we will do it. Please tell your leaders ASAP so we can plan.
Thursday Night NO GEAR INSPECTIONS! We will do them in two weeks. We will be having boards for review tomorrow night and continuing with family life and wilderness survival merit badges.
The Pinewood derby is also being held in the cultural hall, so it will be crowded.
If you need a board of review, don't forget your scout shirt and book.
Here is a list of those who I know need a board of review:
Since so many of you showed considerable interest in Bro. Fullerton's lesson on snaring rabbits I thought I would post some videos I found showcases not only snares but two other effective traps for catching small animals in a survival situation. Enjoy!
Well everyone, its an absolute monsoon outside right now and frankly I don't think things are looking very good for this weekend's camp out. Being that the rain tonight was so heavy I'm worried about the road being washed out. Plus it's supposed to rain both Friday and Saturday while we're there. Let's still plan on gear inspections on Thursday night and we'll make a decision at that point. If it's sunny the rest of the week and it no longer looks like it's going to rain next weekend we'll still go. For now I'm just not sure, I'm not very confident that it's going to work out.
If we are not able to go this weekend we will postponed the camp out for two weeks. Probably April 8th & 9th. If enough of you are interested we may be able to stay longer since that week you'll be out of school for spring break. Maybe we can stay 2 nights or at least go up earlier in the day on Friday.
Check back for updates throughout the week. Eddie and I may try to drive up to the campsite on Wednesday or Thursday to check out the road. We'll let you know what we find.
Some of our lashings on Thursday night were lacking a bit which led to some less than sturdy shelters. I thought you might enjoy a video refresher so here are a few key lashings and knots you should know well.
Congratulation to all the youth for making such vast improvements in their survival shelter building tonight. I think we can all agree that your skills dramatically improved with the second attempt. You will all be glad you had this practice when we're up on the mountain next weekend. It's never fun to have your shelter fall apart in the wee hours and have to get up and try to fix it in the cold rather than stay cozy in your warm sleeping bag.
Remember that next Thursday we will holding gear inspections at the church so all of you need to come prepared as if you were leaving on the camp out that night. Patrol leaders will conduct gear inspections and ensure everyone is prepared.
Be sure to tell the other boys how much fun we had tonight and they need to make sure to be at next thursdays gear inspection. Thanks and great job tonight.

For Mutual, the Priest's Quorum went to the Escondido Lexus dealership as guests of Randy Knight. They learned a little about buying a car, went for a test drive in an IC 250. We cannot confirm nor deny that the boys got to test drive the car in the parking lot at the Stake Center. After the test drive, the boys were treated to treats at the dealership cafe. Quote of the evening "Why don't the Priests do stuff like this more often?"
